In the "File" menu, there is an option called "Compact Project File". After a project file has been used for a few months (6 months+), this option can be used to rebuild the project file. The compacting operation checks the file for inconcistencies, reclaims unused space and rebuilds the indeces held within it.
This operation can take a long time (30 minutes or more on some large project files). It should be used once or twice a year, or if there is a problem with a project file, it can detect and repair them.
